About Altruistic
Our passion for providing the best wine to Asia comes from our passion for drinking, researching and sharing, as well as our frustration with an inability to currently get the best wines in Hong Kong, regardless of their origin. We will work with individual vineyards and institutions in Asia to provide the best, most complete and most honest wine drinking experience possible.
Our love for wines is only matched by our commitment to charitable organizations in the regions we do business. We will work with local charities and donate our time, energy, network and wine to help impact the greater society. Wine is a passion, but there is more to life and we hope to impact all of our clients and their organizations positively and altruistically.
About Raiford C. Cockfield III
Raiford C. Cockfield III is currently a partner in Altruistic Consulting Group, the parent company of Altruistic Boutique Wines. Rai founded Altruistic with his partner Karin Ho. Together, they have signed over 30 vineyard partners and represent their wines in Hong Kong, China and Singapore. At Altruistic, Rai serves as the Managing Director, responsible for recruiting vineyards, raising capital, long-term business planning, managing the website, project management and assisting in all sales activities.
Rai's passion for wine was established early on in his life and has grown steadily over the years. Born and raised in Westport, CT, USA, Rai attended Wesleyan University where he majored in Government and worked for a local liquor store where he began his love of wines. After graduating in 2001 and two years of selling and tasting wines in Middletown, CT, he set out to understand all he could about wines while working for Lehman Brothers in New York.
New York's endless selection of fine French, Italian and U.S. wines allowed him to further tune his understanding of the different regions, while tasting a large and diverse selection. For four years, he combed through New York.s many restaurants and wine bars, searching for more interesting and satisfying vino to share with friends and family.
Beautiful Northern California came calling after 4 years in the New York area and Rai matriculated to Stanford University to study for his MBA. At Stanford, he became one of the Directors of the Wine Circle where his biggest contributions were several large food & wine pairings. He picked the wines, prepared notes and cooked for up to 50 people per event. His time in the Wine Circle also allowed him multiple trips to all of the major wine growing areas in California, Oregon and Washington. It was on these trips he increased his knowledge of smaller boutique wine makers, influencing his passion to work with them today.
Rai arrived in Hong Kong directly after graduation from Stanford in 2007 to work for Lehman Brothers again, this time in Real Estate Private Equity. His love for the region already established on previous trips throughout Asia, Rai found that living in Hong Kong and conducting business in Asia was an opportunity he could not pass up. The thrill of introducing the wines he loves throughout the world to an ever-increasing audience of wine connoisseurs in Asia is a dream job and one that he is not soon to relinquish.
Currently living between Hong Kong and Beijing China, Rai sees Altruistic Boutique Wines as the culmination of his passions in life: wine, friendship and community. Through the wines that Altruistic brings in, he hopes that the continued spirit of community that wine instills, as well as the community work that Altruistic will participate in, will positively impact all of the regions where Altruistic has a presence.
About Karin Ho
Karin Ho is currently a partner in Altruistic Consulting Group, the parent company of Altruistic Boutique Wines. Karin founded Altruistic with her partner Raiford C. Cockfield III. Together, they have signed over 30 vineyard partners and represent their wines in Hong Kong, China and Singapore. At Altruistic, Karin serves as the Sales Director, responsible for private client sales, private events coordination and large-scale events planning.
Karin's passion for wine was established early on in her career and has steadily grown since, but her career began in bio-molecular chemistry in Canada. Born in Hong Kong and raised in Vancouver, Karin graduated from Queen's University in Kingston, Canada with honors in bio-molecular chemistry. Her first job was with the National Defense of Canada researching environmental protection policies. Her original intention was to enter medical school, but after deciding that the medical and research fields would not be the right path, Karin returned to Hong Kong to pursue her interest in wine.
Hong Kong allowed her to reach her chosen path, but not immediately, so while working as a corporate recruiter, she began her formal wine study. Karin started WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) classes with an eye focused towards a career in wine. Karin has completed WSET Levels 1-3, as well as ISG (International Sommelier Guild) Levels 1 & 2. She will continue her education through to her diploma for both accreditations next year. In addition, Karin now teaches WSET courses part-time at AWSEC, Asia Wine and Service Education Center. Her training and passion helped land her first position in wine sales at Quintessentially Wines, a global private wine club based out of London.
Altruistic allows Karin to satisfy both of her passions, wine and charity. In the past, Karin has volunteered with many local organizations in running after-school activities and mentoring foster and autistic children. With Altruistic, she can now tie her love of wines with her passion for giving back. Altruistic has already signed on to donate cases for auction for several local Hong Kong and China based charities and will increase its giving over the coming years. Throughout her life, Karin has pursued her passions with a focused commitment and positive attitude. Her hard work and perseverance have allowed her to achieve many of the goals she has set for herself, early in a blossoming career.

| The Women's Foundation In 2002, we moved from words to action. Join us now as we help shape the future by investing in the power and potential of women and girls! In September 2002 a group of like-minded women began discussing the need for an organization that could be a voice for women and girls in Hong Kong. The group was concerned about problems for women across a wide spectrum of Hong Kong society: under-representation of women in decision-making processes, lack of economic parity, increasing numbers of women in crisis, and serious inadequacies in social services for women in areas as diverse as medical tests for female-specific diseases; housing for older single women; domestic violence; lack of skills training for dislocated female manufacturing workers; and settlement services for mainland arrivals, primarily women and children. The Hong Kong citizens holding up half the sky did not seem to be fully sharing in society. Researching initiatives around the world on behalf of women, the group became committed to the concept of a women's foundation. After studying many models, they identified several key ingredients to success: the need to begin with systematic research, the ability to pull together a diverse team of people committed to change, the ability to attract and maintain a significant stream of private funding, and the mission to be a catalyst for collaborative efforts in the community to plan and implement strategic solutions. |

| SPCA Hong Kong SPCA, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals ,was first formed by a group of volunteers in 1903 but was not active until 1921. Although we are the first Charity in Hong Kong to deal with all aspects of animal welfare, we obtain very little support from the Government. The Society therefore, has to struggle constantly to continue its work. Our Aim Animals are living creatures which like humans, are able to feel pain, hunger and thirst. We should not inflict any suffering upon our fellow creatures just because they can't speak. Our aims are "to promote kindness and to prevent or suppress cruelty to animals." Our mission through the millennium is " To promote kindness to animals, to protect their health and welfare, to prevent cruelty and through education, to inspire in the community a deep respect for life so that all living creatures may live together in harmony." How does the SPCA act to achieve these aims? The SPCA believes that animals deserve our protection, compassion and respect. We aim to prevent their suffering wherever we can through- * Collection and rescue of abandoned, sick and injured animals. * Investigation of complaints of cruelty. * Acceptance of unwanted pets to ease the stray problem and animal suffering. * Provision of low-cost desexing for cats and dogs to prevent unwanted litters. * Rehoming of unwanted pets whenever possible. * Hospitalization of homeless animals whenever possible, providing as necessary basic veterinary care, treatment of disease or major surgery. * Public education on responsible pet ownership and animal welfare issues. |
